MORE YELLOWTAIL, BARRACUDA MOVING UP
Posted On May 4, 2012
While the yellowtail at the La Jolla kelp seemed to sink out late last week, there are more signs of migratory fish moving up the coast and showing in better numbers between Ensenada and San Diego. This has also been the first week where barracuda have been showing in any numbers. The water temperatures have climbed with the warmer weather of the past couple of weeks. On May 2, Malahini out of H&M Landing was out with 23 anglers and they caught three yellowtail, 35 barracuda and 25 rockfish. On May 1, San Diego was on a three-quarter day trip with 10 anglers and they landed full limits of barracuda (50 fish), along with three yellowtail and 22 rockfish. About a third of the barracuda being landed on these trips were nice 6- to 8-pound fish.
