YELLOWTAIL STILL A PICK:
Posted On April 25, 2012
There continues to be a pick of yellowtail at the La Jolla kelp. The mid-week boats are getting a few fish under birds, while the weekend boat traffic pushes the fish deep -- and the bite is all on yo-yo iron then. The half- and three-quarter-day boats are getting three to seven yellows per trip, but they are all 15 to 30 pounds -- with most in that 25-pound class. Seas have been a problem, so skippers are recommending anglers use 40 to 50-pound test line with yo-yo iron, so they can get the fish to the boat as quickly as possible.
