Colorado River, April 13 Report

ARIZONA FISHING REPORTS: The Arizona Game and Fish Department compiles a weekly report for most waters in the state, including the Colorado Rivers. Anglers can read the report at this direct link.

FLOW INFORMATION: Reservoir elevation levels and flow releases for the entire lower Colorado River are available at this website with information updated hourly.

TOP NEWS: Warmer temperatures over the past three weeks have broken open the warm water bites in Havasu and Mohave, especially for stripers, largemouth, and smallmouth bass, but the fishing pressure is still pretty light. The lower river always goes off first, but a cool snap and a surge in the flows dropped the water temperatures from 76 to 67 degrees last week and all the bites stalled below Havasu. In Mohave, both the smallmouth and largemouth bass have moved shallow and are on beds and the stripes are showing in all the coves and points near the dam and fish are starting to move upriver. A few bigger fish are already being caught at Willow Beach. In Havasu, all of the coves have largemouth and the smallmouth are on the rocky points, both in shallow water for the spawn. Topoc Marsh and Topoc Gorge are both starting to take off for largemouths, stripers, and panfish. The stripers are also getting good all along the upper river with some good catches reported in Havasu and the Bullhead City stretch of the river. Topoc Marsh remains wide open for smaller stripers, mostly on cut anchovies. Trout were planted four weeks ago in the river at Davis Camp and the Community Park in the Bullhead area, just fair action. Catfish are improving, especially in backwaters, ditches, and canals all along the river, and the flatheads are starting to show again in the lower river as water temperatures start to climb back up in area backwaters and ditches. Top fish reported in the past week was a 19-pounder.
