Fish Report-Freshwater, Aug. 12

GENERAL UPDATE: Top Eastern Sierra fishing report web sites are: www.KensSport.com (Bridgeport region).

TOP NEWS: Overall, the trout fishing remains fair to good throughout the Eastern Sierra. The best fishing continues to be early and late in the day. The bulk of the fish in the lakes are showing in deeper water outside the dawn-dusk window. Trollers and deep-water bait anglers doing best during the day. Mosquitos are also out in force most places, so bug repellant is recommended. Top fishing spots have been the Virginia Lakes, Grant Lake, and Crowley Lake (for fly anglers since the Aug. 1 regulation change), but a lot of fish are coming out of the high elevation waters and hike-in lakes and creeks. East Walker River flows remain low (43 cfs) and fishing tough. Bridgeport Reservoir, the Twin Lakes out of Bridgeport, and Convict Lake have been pretty good for anglers fishing very deep water 40 to 60 feet or more, but tough for others. Top catches this week: Big Virginia Lake cranked out an 8-6 rainbow for Lynn Klase, Lake Isabella, on an inflated nightcrawler, while Brandon Surdock, Huntington Beach, caught a 7-5 rainbow on a Power Worm from the West Walker River.
