A Big White Seabass from a Little Boat

By: FishRap Staff

Jonathan Stroh of San Clemente caught this 59-pound white seabass off San Onofre using a fly-lined live anchovy, aboard a small used boat he bought in December. “I fought the fish for 45 minutes,” Stroh said. “I honestly don’t know how I got this thing out of the kelp. Finally, I got it free and out away from any seaweed, got it to the surface, gaffed it and brought it on board. I sat in pure disbelief before calling my dad — the man who introduced me to fishing — and then headed straight back to Dana Point. Wow … I’m still shocked, and very, very stoked!”
