NEWPORT BEACH – Anglers on the fence about signing up for the 51st annual Lily Call may be persuaded to jump into the competition with the club’s announcement that it will be reducing this year’s fee to help entice more membership.

The Balboa Angling Club has dropped the fee for non-members to $40. New members are invited to sign up at the new membership pricing and get to know other members during the  Lily Call event scheduled for April 26-27.

This tournament will be a great opportunity to check out the historic clubhouse, meet the board of directors and get a feel of what the Balboa Angling Club is all about.

The Balboa Angling Club hosts six tournaments throughout the year with the Lily Call being the first. The Lily Call is a tournament for croaker, bass, corbina and halibut using 4# Line Class within Newport Harbor. Limited to the first 150 anglers. Lines in will begin at noon on Saturday, April 26 with lines out at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27 with a cutoff for weighing fish at 3:30 p.m.

A Lily Call Awards Barbecue will be held at the Balboa Angling Club docks starting at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 27. A raffle will be held for all registered anglers. Prizes include gear, gift certificates, and much more.

The Lily Call is only the first of several tournaments hosted by the club. Other tournaments include the Spring Classic (yellowtail, seabass and halibut); the summer-long Junior Tournament; The Helen Smith Offshore Tournament; Newport Harbor Bay Bass Open and the Master Angler Billfish Tournament.

The Balboa Angling Club also hosts kick off parties prior to each tournament with a potluck porch party at the clubhouse. This is a great way to meet members, exchange fishing stories and perhaps match up with other members to share the cost of fuel.             The Kick-Off Party for the Lily Call is scheduled for Thursday, April 24  at 5:30 p.m.

The club currently had open enrollment. Club membership begins at $175/year for singles and $225/year for family memberships. Junior anglers under the age of 21 can join for $25/year.
