Anglers who love fishing for rainbow trout might want to consider making Big Bear Lake a go-to watering hole. The local water district recently announced Big Bear Lake would have its own rainbow trout hatchery.
Several news reports confirmed the planned establishments of a $3.5 million rainbow trout hatchery at the freshwater lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. Big Bear Municipal Water District reportedly announced it would stock its own rainbow trout.
The water district currently relies on outside third party agencies to source its trout plants. However news reports indicated the size and stock of rainbow trout have slowly diminished over time.
The new hatchery could be operational by next year and would produce 150,000 pounds of rainbow trout annually, according to news reports.
