SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — El Niño gets credit for yet another exotic fish found in Southern California waters as a Tan Grouper was caught and released last month off the Orange County coast.
A deckhand aboard Clemente out of Dana Wharf Sportfishing caught the Tan Grouper as it was reportedly trying to eat a sculpin. A photo of the catch was posted on Dana Wharf Sportfishing’s Facebook page with the following status:
“Another super rare El Niño fish was caught this past week by our deckhand Kyle Nelson on the #Clemente, have you ever seen a Tan Grouper? They are often seen in the Sea of Cortez but never this far north! Let us know if you have caught one this year …. It was trying to eat a sculpin when we caught it both were released!”
The 2015 fishing season continues to produce big bites off the Southern California coast, including wahoo, yellowfin and yellowtail.
