1. The trout fishing is good all across Southern California in the lakes planted during the winter. Most of have been getting trout long enough now that a single top pick is tough. So the top pick is for trout fishing at one or more of these waters: Wohlford, Dixon, Poway or Jennings in San Diego County; Glen Helen Park Lake, Yucaipa Park Lakes, Hesperia Lake and Silverwood Lake in San Bernardino County; Santa Ana River Lakes in Orange County; and Cachuma Lake in Ventura County. Contact info for these lakes is in the report below.
2. Guide Mike Southerland has been hammering the striped bass at Silverwood Lake using his ‘flycore’ trolling technique. Limits have been the rule for Southerland and his clients, with the fish mostly in the three to six-pound class. The stripers have been tougher to get on other tactics or bait, but this deep trolling is getting them. For more information, call the marina at 760-389-2299 or check with Southerland at 951-722-0284.
3. It’s still in the top picks! The carp bite at Lake Perris continues to perk along with some good catches reported again this past week. Many of the fish are running from 10 to 20 pounds on homemade dough baits. Top spots have been along the south side of the lake, especially in the Sail Cove area, around the marina docks, and at Lots 11 and 12. For an update and tips on fishing this bite, check with the marina staff at 951-657-2179.
