Lake Elsinore restocked with catfish

Hammered by historic drought, the fishery at Lake Elsinore has declined dramatically during the past three years. City officials decided an El Niño winter was the perfect time to jump-start the lake’s recovery.

More than 1,600 pounds of catfish — most mature fish expected to spawn this spring — were planted on Friday, Feb. 12. Those fish will be joined by 400 adult largemouth bass, 2,000 bluegill and 3,000 black crappie, all scheduled to be planted by Wednesday, Feb. 17.
