NEARSHORE BITE ALL ABOUT ROCKFISH

By: Terrence Berg

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (DFW’s) moronic 14-inch minimum size bass regulation has simply destroyed the nearshore fleet’s summer to early fall fishing, and the few boats making runs are focusing on rockfish. It’s that or do catch-and-release fishing on bass. Only New Seaforth out of Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego has been doing that, and then running to deep water and getting a few rockfish for anglers to take home. There have also been a few local yellowtail showing for these anglers: Three were reported Sept. 2.
