The Triggerfish of Baja

LIGÜÍ, Baja California Sur — Joe Andrews shows off the triggerfish he caught while fishing in the Sea of Cortez on July 1. Andrews was kayak fishing with John Kruse (who snapped this photo) during a fishing tournament in Danzante Bay near Loreto, Baja California Sur. Joe and John were fishing near the Villa Del Palmar resort just outside of Ligüí, which is about 25 miles south of Loreto, Mexico. The area features dorado, marlin, roosterfish, stingrays, triggerfish, tuna and yellowtail this time of year.

Villa Del Palmar (seen in the background) has its own beach where anglers can launch a kayak or snorkel for catches. The resort has its own inventory of kayaks for those who do not have one personally.
