The white seabass action exploded April 29 for the sport boats fishing Santa Cruz Island out of Channel Islands Sportfishing. The limit is one fish right now, but most boats have had limits every day since then — and these have been quality fish from 20 to 45 pounds. The seabass are also showing in a near-secret bite at Catalina that is being tapped by just a handful of local anglers. The white are also starting to move all along the Orange County and Los Angeles area coastlines. There was a 45-pounder speared by an angler in the Palos Verdes area this week. The candy bait — squid — are also showing in most of these areas.
