TOP NEWS: Fishing pressure remains light, and the striper bite has slowed to just fair, and the black bass action is also sputtering with the cooler weather. The panfish bites have also slowed way down. The striper bite in Lake Havasu and Lake Mohave is still the best bet, but cooler weather and winds have hampered this action. In Mohave, the bite is still the best near the dam, powerlines, and points around Katherine’s Landing, with the fish mostly in deeper water now and showing on cut baits, mostly anchovies, and deeply fished lures. The fish are mostly three to eight pounds. In Havasu, the bite is mostly in the main body of the lake. Bait and trolled lures are both working, but the bite is far from hot. In the river between the two lakes, the striper action is fair with most of the fish showing on bait, with a few bigger fish on trout-like swimbaits. The trout action is slow to fair, but another plant at Davis Camp and Rotary Park is due this week or next. Small spinners and drifted nightcrawlers are getting the most fish. The largemouth and smallmouth bass action has been fair throughout the river system, but the fish are getting more lethargic as the water cools. Baits and slow-fished plastics have been the best bait. The smallmouth bass in the lower river have been best along the rip-rap from Parker Dam to Palo Verde on live crawdads. The flathead bite is slow with very light fishing pressure and few fish reported in the past couple of weeks. Most flatheads are showing on live goldfish or bluegill. The channel catfish bite is also fair throughout the system, mostly on cut baits or smaller baits like nightcrawlers, marshmallow-meal worm combos, or dip baits.
