Eastern Sierra, Feb. 2 Report

GENERAL UPDATE: General trout season is closed, but many waters in Inyo and Mono counties remain open year-around. Anglers should check the regulations on open waters and special restrictions. TOP NEWS: The lower Owens River below Pleasant Valley Reservoir has been flowing at just under 200 cfs this past week. The West Walker has been around 140 cfs this past week. The East Walker has been stepped up to 222 cfs this week, up from 105 cfs a week ago. Almost no fishing pressure at any of the year-around waters except on the upper Owens above Crowley Lake. A lot of big rainbows are up out of Crowley in the Hot Fingers stretch of the river. A few 16 to 22 inch fish are being landed in a fairly tough bite. Access to the upper Owens and Hot Creek has been via snowshoes and snowmobile right now. Be prepared for cold conditions and snow.
