ROCKFISH EXCELLENT ALL ALONG COAST

The rockfish bite has remained excellent all along the coast from San Diego up into the Channel Islands, and anglers who didn’t let the weatherman scare them away last weekend had great bags of fish. The bite is perhaps a little better the farther north you go, with Channel Islands Sportfish and Captain Hook’s Landing seeing slightly better quality and volume than landings farther south. Just a few examples of this bite: Thunderbird out of Davey’s Locker was out March 12 with 28 anglers who caught 64 rockfish, 46 sand dabs, 23 red snapper, 14 sculpin and 11 bocaccio. Meanwhile, Bongos III out of the same landing went to Catalina with two anglers and they had 12 red snapper, seven rockfish, one lingcod and one sheephead March 12. Enterprise out of Marina Sportfish was out March 10 with 36 anglers and they landed 161 rockfish, 32 whitefish, 21 sheephead, 21 sculpin, 20 perch, 15 bocaccio and six sole. Redondo Special out of Redondo Sportfish was out March 12 with 18 anglers and they landed 126 rockfish and one lingcod on a half-day trip. Coraloma out of Hook’s Landing had 31 anglers March 12 who had 270 rockfish, four lings, three sculpin and one whitefish. Cobra out of CISCO Landing was out March 10 with six anglers and they caught 60 rockfish, three perch and one sheephead.
