Since Saturday, there has been a fair bite on quality yellowtail off the La Jolla Kelp. Most of the fish are from 25 to 30 pounds. The fish were reported for private boaters fishing dropper-loops with mackerel or sardines, and some fish were caught on bird schools. Most of the action at midweek has been on yo-yo iron fished in deeper water on sonar marks. Local half- and three-quarter-day boats have been getting from two to seven fish per trip, but San Diego had 10 fish at mid-day April 18.
