Fish Report-Freshwater, July 23

HESPERIA LAKE: Good catfish action with 1,000-pound plants last Thursday and this Thursday. The best action has been on shrimp, mackerel, the marshmallow-meal worm combo, or garlic nightcrawlers. Most of the fish are in the two to three-pound range, but bigger fish are in each plant. Top catfish this past week was a 6 pounder caught by Michael Martinez, Victorville, on mackerel. A number of five-fish limits have been checked in. Sly Rivera, Hesperia, had five cats that totaled nearly 20 pounds on garlic nightcrawlers. Information: 800-521-6332 or 760-244-5951.

JESS RANCH LAKES: Trout action has been slow to fair with the best action on PowerBait, especially salmon peach, spring green, or garlic) or inflated nightcrawlers. Some fish on small jigs or trout spinners or spoons early in the morning. The bass bite has been fair to good early and late in the day on Senkos or plastic worms, with some topwater action. Bass to five pounds have been reported. The catfish action is spotty, but some fish showing on mackerel and shrimp. For more information call (760)240-1107.
