HESPERIA LAKE: Good catfish action with 1,000-pound plants last Thursday and this Thursday. The best action has been on shrimp, mackerel, or garlic nightcrawlers. Most of the fish are in the 2 to 3-pound range, but bigger fish are in each plant. Top catfish this past week was an 11-pounder caught by Jung Donh, San Bernardino, on mackerel off the north shore. Ten-pound cats were landed by Gator Ballard, Fontana, and Bruce Calvin, Fontana, while 7-pounders were caught by Klaus Hoffman, Fontana, and Borin Hou, Redondo Beach. JESS RANCH LAKES: Trout action has been slow to fair with hot weather this past week. The best action has been on PowerBait, especially garlic, fluorescent orange, and salmon peach, or inflated nightcrawlers. Some fish on small jigs or trout spinner or spoons early in the morning. The bass bite has been fair to good early and late in the day on Senkos or plastic worms, with some topwater action. Bass to five pounds have been reported. The catfish action is also improving with some nice fish landed, mostly on mackerel and shrimp. For more information call (760)240-1107.

MOJAVE NARROWS: County catfish plants are alternating weeks this year through Sept. 3. The most recent plant was Thursday last week (July 2). DFW trout plant two weeks ago. For lake information: 760-245-2226.
