SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES: The trout bite has been good with bigger quality fish planted for the holidays. Top trout reported were a 12-9 landed by Nate Rautio, Huntington Beach, on a white Mijo’s Minnow. Mike Luna, Wilmington, landed a 12-8 on a nightcrawlers, while Robert Acosta, Placentia, caught an 11-8. Triston Harrison, Rancho Cucamonga, landed a 5-8 Lightning Trout. A few catifhs are showing, too. Rick Kizzie, Los Angeles, had six catfish to 9-12. Trout plants are weekly. Information: 714-632-7851.
IRVINE LAKE: Lake concession lease ends in March and no more trout plants are going in this year. Fishing has been fair with a few trout and catfish showing, and no limit on tose two species. Top fish reported was an 8-2 channel cat landed by Art Boyamian, Orange, on mackerel off the west shore. Top trout was a four-pound rainbow landed by Kelli Ann McManus, Garden Grove, on nightcrawlers. All boating, including use of rental boats, has been suspended here as of Sept. 5. LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: Last plant Dec. 14 (2,000 pounds) and the next plants will be the week of Jan. 4 (1,800 pounds), Jan. 18 (1,500 pounds), Feb. 1 (2,000 pounds, Feb. 15 (1,500 pounds), Feb. 29 (1,800 pounds), Mar. 14 (1,000 pounds), and March 28 (1,000 pounds).
