Fish Report Orange County

IRVINE LAKE: The rain didn’t slow the trout action here this past week with fair to good action for bait anglers fishing at Trout Island with PowerBait or inflated nightcrawlers and trollers working mid-lake and the flats with small lures with pink and red in them. Lots of trout in the two to four pound rainbow, and the big fish was a 9-5 rainbow landed by Gayle Johnson, Torrance, on PowerBait. A 9-3 was posted by P.J. Castongue, Vista. Also a few catfish being caught on cut baits in the old creek channel, but few anglers are targeting the channels and blues. Information: (714) 649-9111.    

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE: There was a plant of 2,000 pounds of rainbows last Wednesday with fish to 18 pounds planted along with 100 tagged trout. Plants are each Wednesday. Top fish reported this past week was an 11-5 rainbow caught by Cheyene St. Lawrence, Costa Mesa, on Mouse Tail. Several other five-pound class trout landed. Lots of limits reported for shore, float tube, and boat anglers and the fish are spread throughout the lake. The largemouth bass bite is good with the fish stacked up in the shallows on beds. Most are showing on plastics fished on the back side of the lake. Information: (949) 362-9227.
