Fish Report-Freshwater, Dec. 10

SILVERWOOD: Trout action has been fair to good for anglers fishing the shallow coves and points in Cleghorn and Miller canyons. The most recent plant was Nov. 30, and DFW fish are slated for next week. William Cramsey, Apple Valley, had five rainbows totaling 6-4 fishing jigs in Cleghorn. Brianna Hernandez, Hesperia, had two rainbows on PowerBait with her best a 1-8. The striper bite remains fair on cut baits around the marina and main points near the dam and inlet. Randy Clark, Adelanto, and Mike Pena, Hesperia, had seven stripers to 1-8 fishing jigs and PowerBait (for trout) off the marina rocks. Catfish also continue to show from deeper water near the dam on chicken liver and nightcrawlers. Anglers should be aware of health warnings for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood. The park is open seven days a week. The dam area boulders have also been producing fish on fly-lined nightcrawlers or PowerBait on a slip bobber. Several limits of rainbow trout to two pounds have been reported over the past week.
