San Bernadino Mt. Waters, Feb. 4 report

SILVERWOOD: The striper bite really surged on this past week with fair to good action on sardines fished off the marina docks, at the dam, and the main lake points in deep water. Most of the stripers are 1-8 to three pounds. Tom Hill, Orange County, had 10 stripers to two pounds on sardines at the dam. Fishing off the marina docks, Franklin White, Oak Hills, landed seven stripers to two pounds, while Javier Dominguez, Apple Valley, had a pair to stripers to three pounds. Both were using sardines. The trout bite has remained fair off the marina rocks and into both Cleghorn and Miller canyons on small jigs, spoons, and PowerBait. Most are pounders, but some bigger. DFW plants two and four weeks ago. Other species are very slow. Anglers should be aware of health warnings for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood. The park is open seven days a week.
