BARRETT: The lake reopens this week. Lake information: (619) 465-3474.

HODGES: There were 140 anglers checked this past week and they reported 216 bass, 14 crappie, seven carp, and one channel catfish. Fernando Quiroz, Escondido, had a 7-14 bass on a Shad Rap. Information: (760) 432-2023.

EL CAPITAN: There were 118 anglers checked this past week and they reported 408 bass, 16 crappie, eight channel catfish, and two bluegill. The lake is open Thursday through Monday with boat rentals available all five days. General lake information: (619) 465-3474. Rental boat and concession information: (619)443-4110.

LOWER OTAY: There were 132 anglers checked this past week and they reported 281 bass to 6-6, three crappie to a pound, and one 10-8 catfish. Otay is open on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule and boat rentals are available all three days. General lake information: (619) 465-3474. UPPER OTAY: There were four anglers checked and they reported three bass to 2-8. The lake is open on a Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday for catch-and-release fishing (only artificial lures with single, barbless hooks), sunrise to sunset. The road to Upper Otay is closed, but anglers can still walk in. Lake information: (619) 465-3474 (recording) or (619) 397-5212 (concession).

MURRAY: The marina staff reports the bass and panfish bites are good, and a few catfish are starting to show for anglers targeting them. Sheldon Reich, San Diego, had bass at eight and four pounds fishing shiners in Padre Bay. Brendan Kimball, Santee, landed three catfish with a 10-pounder his big one. He was fishing mackerel off the fishing dock. Mike Connelly, San Diego, landed eight redear and bluegill topped by a two-pounder. DFW trout plants last week and three weeks ago. MIRAMAR: There were 18 anglers checked and they reported 43 bass and seven rainbow trout. DFW trout plants last week and three weeks ago. Marina concession: (858) 527-1722. General information: (619) 465-3474.

SUTHERLAND: There were 56 anglers checked and they reported 41 bass to 4.25 pounds, 11 bluegill to a pound, five crappie to 2-2, and one channel catfish at nearly five pounds. Lake information: (619) 465-3474. Rental boat reservations: (619) 668-2050.

WOHLFORD: The trout action has remained slow, even after last wee’?s plant. The final plant of the season will go in next week. The bass action has been pretty good on crawdads, plastics, and reaction baits. Jeff Greer, Escondido, landed a 6-9 bass on a plastic worm off the Senior Shoreline. The crappie bite has been fair early in the morning around much of the lake. Peter Vitkus, Escondido, landed a 2-5 crappie on a jig in Willow Cove. Only a few catfish or bluegill are showing. DOANE POND: DFW trout plant this week.

DIXON LAKE: The trout action has been good after a 3,000-pound plant last week. The last plant of the season will go in next week, a 4,500-pound stocking. The best action has continued to be off Pier 1, Whisker Bay, and Jack Creek Cove. A number of anglers have reported limits, and Anthony Najera, Escondido, landed a 6-7 rainbow off Pier No. 1 on a small jig. The bass action has also continued fair to good and a couple of big fish were reported this past week. Best was a 12-8 landed by Matt Bralla, San Diego, on a Castaic Bait, while Jake Weakley, Escondido, caught a 12-pound bass. Fair action on catfish, and more bluegill are starting to be caught. POWAY: Good trout still fair after the final plant of the season two weeks ago. The best bite has been in the deeper parts of the lake for boat anglers and the occasional limit is still coming in. The bass action has been good with a lot of two-pound class fish. Anglers are reminded that all bass are catch-and-release through May 31. Catfish are pretty fair on cut baits with fish to five pounds reported this week. Lake information: (858) 668-4772, tackle shop recording (858) 486-1234.

JENNINGS: The trout bite slowed to just fair this past week, but a trout plant is slated for this week. The best action has been the buoy line and in Half Moon Cove on PowerBait and inflated nightcrawlers. Cactus Patch, Hermit Cove, and Eagle Cove have also produced fish. Best trout reported was an 8-12 rainbow landed by Christopher Almagner, San Ysidro, on rainbow PowerBait in Eagle Cove. The bass bite is also good on drop-shotted plastics and small jigs. The redear bite is also starting to kick into gear. Information: (619) 390-1300.

MORENA: Fair to good trout action, especially around the boat dock on countdown Rapalas, Kastmaster, Thomas Buoyants, or nightcrawlers. The bass action has been good on plastics, swim baits, cranks, and jigs are all getting fish. Improving catfish action on bonita, chicken liver, and mackerel in the coves. CUYAMACA: DFW trout plants last week and next week. A double load of Mt. Lassen rainbows went in this week. The trout bite has been very good with a lot of limits reported and some real quality fish landed. A few catfish are starting to show. Information: (760) 765-0515.
