NEWS/STOCKING UPDATES: Dixon Lake’s last plant of the season was Wednesday this week, a 4,500-pound plant. It also received 4,500 poundstwo weeks ago. Dixon was be closed to all fishing beginning Tuesday this week and it will reopen 6 a.m. Saturday (April 22) for the 20th Annual Kiwanis Trout Derby. Jennings received 1,500 pounds of trout this week, and a 1,700-pound plant two weeks ago. Poway will get its final plant of the year this week, a double plant of 2,800 pounds, and it received 1,500 pounds two weeks ago. Wohlford also gets its final trout plant this week and it was also planted two weeks ago. Both plants were 1,500 pounds. Cuyamaca got a 1,200-pound plant last week, and another 1,200 pounds will go in April 25. There will be two stocks in May and two more in June.

DFW trout will be planted in Lake Murray this week, and there plants last week in Chollas Park Lake, Cuyamaca Lake, Lindo Lake, and Morena Reservoir.

FISHING UPDATE: The bass fishing is generally fair to good but the post-spawn blues are starting to set in on some waters. Lower Otay and San Vicente remain good, but Murray, Wohlford, and Jennings are also pretty good. Trout also remain a good bet but trout season is winding down. Top bets for trout are Cuyamaca, Dixon, Jennings, Poway, and Wohlford. Cuyamaca is fair. The panfish bites are just starting to turn on. Very good panfish action at San Vicente and Murray with the fish moving shallow for the spawn.

FISH COUNTS: The San Diego City Lakes staff usually conducts counts each week at its reservoirs. At Hodges, 103 anglers reported just 10 bass and two channel catfish. At Miramar, 23 anglers reported 39 bass. At Lower Otay, 60 anglers reported 195 bass, 202 bluegill, and 14 crappie. At San Vicente, 24 anglers reported 113 bass and six bluegill. At Sutherland, 12 anglers reported eight bass, four bluegill, and one carp. No other reports.

NOTEABLE CATCHES: At Jennings, Aidan McFarlane, San Diego, had a 10-14 bass on a jerk bait in Cloister Cove. At Murray, Clint Renton, San Diego, had six bluegill to two pounds on wax worms in Del Cerro Bay, and Mike Strong, San Diego, landed a 7.2-pound bass on a shiner.
