San Diego Area Lakes, May 11 Report

NEWS/STOCKING UPDATES: Only Lake Cuyamaca is still being stocked with private trout, and its most recent plant was 1,200 pounds this week and another stocked will go in May 30. DFW trout are slated to go in this week at Cuyamaca Lake, Doane Pond, and Morena Reservoir.

FISHING UPDATE: While the bass action remains fair to good at most waters in the region, the big news is the wide open bluegill bite at Lower Otay Reservoir where over 500 bluegill were again reported for the second week in a row. Also pretty decent bluegill bites at San Vicente, Murray, Jennings, and Sutherland, with good catches reported at all four. Bass were wide open for the Barrett Lake opener this past weekend with anglers averaging 23 bass each. They were reported on just about everything, from topwater to deep jigs and plastics. Lower Otay and San Vicente also remain pretty good on bass, mostly on plastics and reaction baits. Trout season is winding down, but there continues to be some good action at Cuyamaca and Morena. Jennings is also pretty fair. Most of the bites are in deeper water as the surface temperatures warm up.
