San Diego Area Lakes, May 25 Report

NEWS/STOCKING UPDATES: Only Lake Cuyamaca is still being stocked with private trout, and its most recent plant was 1,200 pounds two weeks ago, with DFW fish this week, and another private load next week. DFW trout are also slated for this week in Doane Pond and Morena Reservoir.
FISHING UPDATE: While the bass action remains fair to good at most waters in the region, the bluegill bites are good throughout the region. Lower Otay Reservoir is still a hotspot with anglers post 25-fish limits for the fourth week in a row. Many topping a pound. Also good bluegill bites at Barrett, San Vicente, Murray, and Jennings. Bass remain good at Barrett Lake, but the numbers are half of what they were last week. The bass continue to show on just about everything, from topwater to deep jigs and plastics. Morena, Lower Otay, El Capitan, and San Vicente also remain pretty good on bass, mostly on plastics and reaction baits. Trout season is winding down, but there continues to be some good action at Cuyamaca and Morena (both getting DFW trout plants this week). Jennings is also pretty fair. Most of the bites are in deeper water as the surface temperatures warm up. Murray produced three giant carp to 30.5 pounds on dough bait.
