TOP NEWS: The action all along the river is fair to good, but the heat and mosquitos are bad on the lower river. Still five major bites to note: First, there is still a fair to good largemouth and smallmouth bass bite in Lake Havasu on reaction baits and plastics. But bass have been good all along the river in the backwaters and all the reservoirs. This bite has slowed a little as the fish move deeper. The lower river around Palo Verde remains pretty good for smallmouth. Second, the flathead catfish action on the lower river below Blythe remains good to excellent, especially in the Palo Verde to Yuma stretch of river at night. Heat has fishing pressure light. Third, the big redear action is very good at Havasu and throughout Topoc Gorge. A lot of big fish from 1-8 to 2-8 have been reported in 15 to 40 feet of water. Fourth, the striped bass bite has been very good in the river between Davis Dam and Lake Havasu, but mostly on small fish from 1 to 2 pounds. This action has spread upstream into Lake Mohave and downstream into Havasu, with pretty good bites in both of these lakes now, mostly on cut baits. Fifth, there continues to be a good trout bite in the Bullhead City stretch of the river. Weekly plants at the two stocking locations — the Community Park and Davis Camp. The 1,700-fish plants are alternated between each spot each week. Most of the fish are running a pound or better and PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and small spinners are all getting the rainbows. There are also weekly trout plants at Willow Beach and the bite on rainbows has been good.
