TOP NEWS: The action all along the river is pretty good. Four major bites to note: First, there is a good largemouth and smallmouth bass bite in Lake Havasu on reaction baits and plastics. But bass have been good all along the river in the backwaters and all the reservoirs. The lower river around Palo Verde has also been pretty good for smallmouth. Second, the catfish action on the lower river below Blythe remains good to excellent, especially in the Palo Verde to Yuma stretch of river but with light fishing pressures. Top fish reported this past week was a 23-pounder. Third, the big redear action is very good at Havasu and throughout Topoc Gorge. A lot of toads from 1-8 to 2-8 have been reported in six to 18 feet of water. Fourth, there continues to be a good trout bite in the Bullhead City stretch of the river. Weekly plants at the two stocking locations — the Community Park and Davis Camp. The 1,700-fish plants are alternated between each spot each week. Most of the fish are running 1 pound or better and PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and small spinners are all getting the rainbows. There are also weekly trout plants at Willow Beach and the bite on rainbows has been good. The striper action is also improving all along the river, especially in Havasu and the river between Havasu and Davis Dam (lots of fish under five pounds). However, Susan Brown, Bullhead City, landed a 10-pounder fishing with her husband Ranby in the upper Big Bend area. The striper bite is also fair in Lake Mohave. Catfish are also starting to show in better numbers from Havasu upstream, mostly channel cats.
