TOP NEWS: Fishing pressure is finally picking up. There continues to be fair to good action for most species, and the striper action is really picking up as evenings cool a little. In Havasu and Mohave, the surface bite on stripers is pretty good most mornings in the south ends of both lakes, and there are a lot of small stripers (under three pounds) showing in the main river from Davis Dam to Topoc Gorge. There are pretty good bites for largemouth and smallmouth all along the river, but Topoc Marsh and the lower river backwaters are really turning on. The bass are up chasing baitfish early and late in the day. Most of the action is in less than 20 feet of water morning and evening, but the fish are in deeper water during most of the day. The bluegill and redear bites are improving with a pretty fair to good bite again. Lots of smaller fish, but some decent fish showing from deeper water on live bait. The best spots for quality redear are in Havasu and Topoc Gorge with fish to three pounds. The flathead catfish bite in the lower river has been slow to fair in the main river, but conditions are excellent now in both the river and backwaters. There’s just no one fishing. The channel catfish bite is also good in the main river stretches, but also in all the reservoirs. The trout plant are regular again in the Laughlin/Bullhead City stretch of the river and the bite is pretty good on spinners and PowerBait for the pan-sized rainbows.
