Fish Report-Freshwater, Aug. 19

TOP NEWS: The striped bass and catfish continue to be the best bets along the whole river. The stripers are fair to good throughout the upper end from Lake Havasu up through Topoc Gorge and all the way up to Davis Dam. The bite is also good now in the main body of Havasu, especially in the California Bay region. Best action on drifted cut baits in the river and topwater and shad-like baits early and late in the day on the lake. More fish are also starting to show in Lake Mohave, especially on cut baits in the stretch from Katherine’s Landing to the dam. The catfish bite has also really turned on throughout the river system, especially for channels, but also more flatheads in Palo Verde Lagoon and other deep pools and backwaters in the lower part of the river. Paul Brenneman, Bullhead City, had catfish at 10.08 and 9.68 pounds near the Needles bridge. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are fair with some flurries of topwater action early in the day in both Havasu and Mohave on the edges of the floating weed mats. The bass and bluegill are fair in the lower stretch of river, but getting very little pressure. Havaus and Topoc also have pretty decent panfish bites, especially on redear.
