TOP FISHING NEWS: Great weather over the past week, and open waters have been fishing well. In the Bridgeport region, the flows on the East Walker stayed pretty consistent over the past week, moving from lows just above 100 cfs to highs just under 200 cfs, which are excellent fishing flows. The action has been pretty good for the few anglers fishing on both streamers and small nymphs with fish to 20 inches reported this week. The West Walker flows have ramped way up over the past week with warm weather increasing runoff. Flows went from 400 cfs a week ago to over 900 cfs this week. No fishing reports. In the Mammoth region, Hot Creek has been spotty, but the upper Owens River above Benton Crossing has been good. Big rainbows and cutthroats (moving up out of Crowley for the spawn) showing above and below this stretch. The fish are now from the mouth of Crowley all the way to Big springs. Lots of rainbows and cuts to 24 inches have been reported. In the Bishop region, the lower Owens River, including the gorge below Crowley Lake, have been pretty fair. Flows below Pleasant Valley Reservoir have stayed around 300 cfs this week, which is above the flow level most anglers are comfortable wading.
The action has stayed fair on small nymphs and midges, but light fishing pressure. All that will change this weekend.
The DFW will be planting most of the major roadside waters for the opener this weekend. A complete list of waters planted in the trout plant list below.
