Bass, Panfish biting near Hemet’s Diamond Valley Marina

By:

HEMET — On Sunday, Aug. 3, anglers near the Diamond Valley Marina were catching bass between 2 and 10 pounds. Rob Phelps of Hemet reeled in a 9 pound 9 ounce bass using a shell cracker as bait.

Anglers report seeing stripers but have had a hard time hooking them. It is recommended to use cut bait and bluegill look-alike lures, as the stripers are prone to hunt small bluegills in the area.

Panfish have also been abundant in area waters. Fishermen have been catching the panfish on night crawlers, mini jigs and mealworms. Hoyt Curtis of Sun City brought home a solid 2 pound 1 ounce redear on a night crawler.

Anglers have also reported plentiful catfish biting. Area insiders suggest stink bait, cut bait and night crawlers are currently working best.
