March 14 • Big Okuma Lightning Trout Tournament, Santa Ana River Lakes. This tournament is billed as “the most anticipated stocking of the season.” Anglers can buy-in to the Big Okuma Lightning Trout Tournament for $20. The tournament features a 100-percent payout and optional $10 blind bogey; top three heaviest trout earn cash prizes. The cutoff for buy-in is 9 a.m. the day of the event. March 15 • Recreational white seabass daily bag limit reduced, south of Point Conception. The recreational white seabass daily bag limit will be reduced to one fish from March 15 to June 15. Additional information at dfg.ca.gov/marine/calendar.asp.
March 18 • Recreational and commercial spiny lobster season ends, statewide. The spiny lobster season for both recreational and commercial anglers comes to an end March 18. The 2015-2016 season will resume Sept. 29. For more information, visit dfg.ca.gov/marine/calendar.asp.
March 20 • First day to report spiny lobster report card harvest data online, statewide. Report cardholders who fail to return their Full Season Spiny Lobster Report Card or report their harvest online by April 30, following the close of lobster season, will be assessed a $20 non-return fee when they purchase a spiny lobster report card for the following season. March 21 • Free Kids’ Fishing Derby, Mile Square Regional Park, Fountain Valley. OC Parks, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Angler Chronicles host the annual Kids’ Fishing Derby at North Lake at Mile Square Regional Park. Kids age 6 to 15 fish for free at the derby and compete to win prizes. The lake will be stocked with trout and catfish for the derby. Fishing clinics will be held on-site, and a limited quantity of fishing rods will be available for loan. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Rain will not cancel the event. Event is free; parking is $5. Event will be held at North Lake near the intersection of Edinger and Euclid. March 21 • The Catch Tour Fishing Tournament, Chino. Billed as a “family-oriented charity fishing tournament,” the event at Prado Regional Park in Chino will benefit Prostate Cancer Foundation. The entry is $45 per parent-child team. Each additional child is $15 extra; up to four members per team. Fee includes a T-shirt, door prizes and a catered lunch. First through fifth places earn a prize; gifts are awarded to sixth- to tenth-place winners. The online entry deadline is March 13. March 26-29 • Fred Hall Outdoor Recreation Show, Del Mar. Fred Hall’s second outdoor recreation show takes place just north of San Diego in Del Mar. Hundreds of fishing, hunting and travel companies will be in attendance. Sport hunting and fishing licenses will be available for purchase. Biologists and wardens from the Department of Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to answer questions.

April 11 • 35th annual New Horizons Charity Pro-Am Bass Tournament, Lake Havasu. Bass fishing enthusiasts will have a chance to partake in a friendly competition for the “Big Fish” prize at this charity tournament at Lake Havasu State Park. The event starts at first light in Lot 2. Admission is $225 per team with a $50 option. Ongoing • Kids’ Fishing Clinic and Fishing Trip, Dana Point. Each Sunday at noon, Dana Wharf Sportfishing invites children 12 and younger to fish for free. Participants meet at Dana Wharf for a free dockside fishing clinic. After the clinic, Dana Wharf Sportfishing takes the participants out to fish at sea. Trip includes equipment for children.
