1. While winds can be a problem, the rockfish action from Oxnard to Morro Bay has just been phenomenal, with limit-style fishing most days on most boat, even the short half-day trips. There have been lots of reds and bocaccio in the rockfish limits, and when you add in the good scores on whitefish, and a smattering of sheephead and lingcod, these have been top notch trips. For an update on this bite, check the daily scores on 976-TUNA.com or call one of the landings in the region.
2. The Pyramid Lake striper bite stays in the top picks yet another week. Lots of limits of fish around 2 pounds with some to 6 or 7 pounds, and even the occasional bigger fish. The best bite has been on cut baits and lug worms, and there are also some catfish showing in this bite. For an update on this action, check with the Emigrant Landing entrance booth at 661-295-7155 or Tackle Express at 661-251-8700.
3. The bite on big bluegill at Lake Perris has been very good over the past two weeks and this bite moves into the top picks this week. There have been a lot of fish to 2 pounds or better caught in recent days. The fish are showing around much of the lake, but the backside of the island has been a hotspot. Crickets, red worms, wax worms, and meal worms have all be good, and many anglers are fishing small jigs tipped with bait. For an update, check with the marina staff at 951-657-2179.
