1. The offshore fishing out of San Diego is the top pick this week with very good action on yellowtail, trophy bluefin tuna to 215 pounds or larger, and now even yellowfin tuna are joining this bite. The best part is even the one-day boats are getting into all three pelagic species. Most of the yellowtail have been 12 to 18 pounds, the average bluefin are 40 to 50 with some schools having nothing but the toads, and these early yellowfin mostly smaller than 20 pounds. 2. Shhhhhh. This has been a secret bite for the past week or two, but the action at Little Rock Reservoir for the anglers willing to walk the quarter-mile up to the lake from the locked gate on the road are seeing a very good bite on crappie to two pounds (and nearly as good bass and bluegill fishing. The crappie have been showing tight to the stickups in the low water on small jigs. For updated information, call Amaysing Fishing Bait & Tackle at 661-429-5824.
3. Castaic Lake’s striper bite stays in the top picks yet again this week, continuing to edge out nearby Pyramid Lake. Castaic is simply producing as many fish as Pyramid, but with much better quality. Lots of 10-fish limits again in the past week (at both lakes) with fish showing on cut baits, topwater, or trolled umbrella rigs. For an update on this bite, call the marina at 661-775-6232 (www.CastaicLake.com) or Tackle Express at 661-251-8700.
