1. The ocean action simply can’t leave this top spot. While the offshore action has been anything but wide open, there is still exceptional quality to the bluefin tuna being caught on the overnight to two-day trips out of San Diego, and the yellowtail, yellowfin, and now dorado action all ramped up this week going into the full moon. 2. The bite on bluegill at Apollo Park Lake remains a good place to take kids and catch a lot of fish. While most are small, the bite can be non-stop early and late in the day on just about any small bait or lure fished near the bottom beneath a float. For an update on this bite, contact Apollo Park at 661-940-7701 or Amaysing Fishing Bait & Tackle at 661-429-5824.
3. Castaic Lake’s striper bite stays in the top picks yet again this week. The fish are showing in limit-numbers at the buoy line and in Necktie Canyon, mostly on fresh sardines early and late in the day, but some fish are still busting on topwater for brief periods and trolling with umbrella rigs is also a good bet. The bluegill bite also is pretty much wide open outside Dry Gulch and in the lower lake. For an update on this bite, call the marina at 661-775-6232 (www.CastaicLake.com) or Tackle Express at 661-251-8700.
