1. The ocean action simply will not be displaced from the top pick, and the San Diego action is breaking wide open with a flood of yellowtail, Dorado, and yellowfin tuna on the nearshore banks joining the great bite further offshore for exceptional quality bluefin tuna (the best in recent days was a 302-pounder). For an update, check with 976-TUNA.com.
2. The bite on bluegill at Apollo Park Lake remains a good place to take kids and catch a lot of fish. While most are small, the bite can be non-stop early and late in the day on just about any small bait or lure fished near the bottom beneath a float. For an update on this bite, contact Apollo Park at 661-940-7701 or Amaysing Fishing Bait & Tackle at 661-429-5824.
3. Castaic Lake’s striper bite stays in the top picks yet again this week. The fish are showing in limit-numbers at the buoy line and in Necktie Canyon, mostly on fresh sardines early and late in the day, but some fish are still busting on topwater for brief periods and trolling with umbrella rigs is also a good bet. The bluegill bite also is pretty much wide open outside Dry Gulch and in the lower lake. For an update on this bite, call the marina at 661-775-6232 (www.CastaicLake.com) or Tackle Express at 661-251-8700.
