1. The yellowfin tuna replace trophy bluefin tuna as the top bite this week. These are mostly 18 to 25-pound yellowfin, but the volume of fish is good and they are from 10 to 35 miles off Point Loma in U.S. waters. Even the three-quarter boats out of San Diego Landings are getting in on this fish. Check with 976-Tuna.com for an update on this action and information on San Diego landings running these trips.
2. For the second week in a row, the striper action at Pyramid Lake is in the top picks. The cooler weather has been trigging striped bass bites throughout Southern California over the past week with more and more surface action and overall better action. Pyramid Lake has been particularly good with the topwater action most mornings and the fish running from 2 to 5 pounds. For an update on this bite, check with the staff manning the entrance booth at 661-295-7155.
3. The broken record pick: Crowley Lake stays in the top picks because, if anything, the trout bite just keeps getting better and better for fly anglers fishing midge and perch minnow imitations. Many 20 to 40 fish days have been reported this past week and there are enough fish over 24-inches to make a trophy fish are real possibility.
