1. The largemouth bass bite at San Vicente Reservoir stays in the top picks and earns the No. 1 spot this week. While it’s not as blazing as it was the opening weekend, the bite is still excellent with a lot of three to five-pound bass showing on all types of patterns and techniques. Still no fish bigger than about seven pounds reported, however. For an update on the bite call the marina at 619-390-1918.
2. While wind hampered the bite a little this past week (and dropping it out of the top pick slot), the overnight to 2.5-day boats out of San Diego continue to find very good action on yellowtail, yellowfin, and dorado. While most of the yellowtail are small, the yellowfin are mostly eight- to 25-pounders. For an update on this action, check 976-tuna.com.
3. Crowley Lake is back in the top picks. The action on 16- to 24-inch rainbows, cutthroats, and brown trout is exceptional. Some of the guides are reporting 30- to 50-fish days for their clients while midge fishing beneath indicators. Independent float tubers have been doing just as good. While this bite has literally been good since the trout season opened, it has gotten better as now in early fall.
