Fishing Picks of the Week

  1. If you are a planted trout fan, Santa Ana River Lakes was the place to be this Thanksgiving weekend. This past weekend marked the kick-off of the trophy trout plants with a lot of Mt. Lassen rainbows topping 10 pounds (up to 20 or more?) slated to go in this week. Already a couple of rainbows over 10 pounds have been landed this past week. For an update on the bite, check with the lake staff at 714-632-7851.
  2. There has been a very good carp bite at Lake Perris with fish up to 18-plus pounds reported in the past week. This is a specialist’s game with most of the bigger fish showing on homemade dough baits along the south side of the lake, but especially in the Sail Cove area and at Lots 11 and 12. For an update and tips on fishing this bite, check with the marina staff at 951-657-2179.
  3. While the winds have made fishing for the giant bluefin tuna on the Tanner Bank difficult, the hot action continues for these 60- to 120-pound giants. In spite of rough conditions many of the overnight and 1.5-day boats continue to post a fish per angler in this unbelievable November action. For an update on this bite, check with 976-tuna.com.
