1. Diamond Valley Lake jumps into the No. 1 slot for two reasons. First, a 3,500-pound Mt. Lassen rainbows trout plant this week, and second because the quality stripers that are showing has been excellent. There have been dozen or more 10-pound class stripers caught in the past couple of weeks by anglers fishing big, trout-like swimbaits from shore. There was a DFW trout plant last week, and this weekís plant should bring up more stripers. The Lassen plants also include some big trout so the rainbow action will also be pretty good. 2. Silverwood stays in the top picks, but only because guide Mike Southerland has been hammering the striped bass using his ìflycoreî trolling technique. Limits have been the rule for Southerland and his clients, with the fish mostly in the three to six-pound class. The stripers have been tougher to get on other tactics or bait, but this deep trolling tactic is getting them. For more information, call the marina at 760-389-2299 or check with Southerland at 951-722-0284.
3. A trout bite somewhere should probably be in the top picks, but Lake Perris carp are staying in the top picks because more good catches were reported again this past week, including at least one fish over 20 pounds. All of these fish are showing on homemade dough baits. Top spots have been along the south side of the lake, especially in the Sail Cove area, around the marina docks, and at Lots 11 and 12.
