1. The Salton Sea tilapia bite is staying the top pick. Action is still wide open and the quality of fish has good with most from three-quarter to 1.5-pounds this week. Few lulls in the action this week. Most of the reports continue to come from the State Park headquarters jetty, and the best action — heck, the only action — has been on small pieces of nightcrawler. For an update on the action call the Salton Sea State Recreation Area main office at 760-393-3059.
2. The trout action at Big Bear Lake is staying in the top picks. Trophy fish to eight pounds and lots of limits of pan-sized one-pounders have been the rule this week. For an update on this bite check with Big Bear Sporting Goods at 909-866-3222 or visit the store’s Facebook page.
3. The Lake Mohave striped bass bite on the Colorado River has been excellent the past week. The heat over the past two weeks has really triggered this bite and the fish are showing on cut baits and shad-like swimbaits. The best part of this action is the quality of the fish. Most are five to eight pounds with kickers to 12 pounds. The best action has been from Katherine’s Landing to the dam for shore and boat anglers. For an update on this bite check with Katherine’s Landing at 928-754-3245 or Riviera Marina in Bullhead City at 928-763-8550.
