1. Back in the top spot. The Crowley Lake trout bite has moved back to the top pick. The action for fly-anglers has been epic with fish continuing to show on midge patterns under an indicator and for anglers casting perch minnow imitations along weed beds. Lots of fish up into the 20-inch range again this week with mostly cutthroats, but a nice mix of rainbows and browns, too. For an update on this action, check with the Troutfitter in Mammoth Lakes at 760-934-2517.
2. The Lake Skinner catfish bite stays in the top picks because of the volume of nice catfish being landed, including more fish this week topping 10 pounds. The action has been best on at Ramp No. 2 and all along the south shore coves. Early morning and late evening have been the best times to fish. For an update on the bite, check with the marina staff at 951-926-8515.
3. The San Diego yellowtail bite for the three-quarter day boats has continued to be excellent, with a number of limits posted the past few days. These are not brute yellowtail, mostly the smaller grade fish up to 8 pounds on the big end and down to 2 or 3 pounds on the small end, but the action is solid. Also a lot of nice bonito in this bite, and even an occasional bluefin tuna. All four landings in San Diego are running these trips. Check for the latest fish counts at 976-TUNA.com.
