1. Big Bear Lake’s hot trout bite is staying the top pick. The action has been good to excellent, and it’s a great way to get away from the heat. A lot of the trout are bigger holdovers and plants from a recent tournament. Top fish this past week was a near-six-pounder. Both trollers and shore anglers are getting into these fish. For an update on the bite call Big Bear Sporting Goods at 909-866-3222 or visit the store’s Facebook page. 2. The Lake Mohave striped bass bite on the Colorado River also remains in the top picks, in spite of 110-degree temperatures in recent days. There continue to be a lot of fish up into the 12-pound class showing for shore and boat anglers fishing cut baits and shad-like swimbaits from Katherine’s Landing to the dam. For an update on this action check with Katherine’s Landing at 928-754-3245 or Riviera Marina in Bullhead City at 928-763-8550. 3. The Castaic Lake striper bite has been consistently good for the anglers who know how to drift bait or troll. Guide Bob Caffey been hammering them with his clients. While a lot of the fish are 12 to 14-inchers, until water flow into the lake spiked in recent days, there was a lot of six to 10-pound or bigger stripers in this bite, too. For an update on the action call the marina at 661-775-6232 or contact Caffey at troutonly.net.
