1. Big Bear Lake’s hot trout bite is again staying the top pick. The action has been good to excellent. A lot of the trout are bigger holdovers and plants from a recent tournament. Top fish reported this past week was six-pounder. Both trollers and shore anglers are getting into these fish. For an update on the bite call Big Bear Sporting Goods at 909-866-3222 or visit the store’s Facebook page.
2. The bluefin tuna action for the San Diego fleet remains good. Catch rates are not high, but the quality is exceptional with most of the fish landed running from 120 to 200 pounds. Most of the action is in overnight boat range, and most anglers get to see these trophy fish up on the surface, even if they don’t hook one. It is the best fishing for trophy bluefin tuna in modern times. Check with 976-TUNA for updates on the action and landing contacts.
3. The Castaic Lake striper bite has been consistently good for the anglers who know how to drift bait or troll. Guide Bob Caffey continues to hammer them with his clients. While a lot of the fish are 12- to 14-inchers, until water flow into the lake spiked in recent days, there was a lot of six to 10-pound or bigger stripers in this bite, too. For an update on the action call the marina at 661-775-6232 or contact Caffey at troutonly.net.
