March 26-29 • Fred Hall Outdoor Recreation Show, Del Mar. Fred Hall’s second outdoor recreation show takes place just north of San Diego in Del Mar. Hundreds of fishing, hunting and travel companies will be in attendance. Sport hunting and fishing licenses will be available for purchase. Biologists and wardens from the Department of Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to answer questions.

March 31 • Public Hearing, Pacific Fisheries Management Council, Fort Bragg. The Council will receive comments from the public on the three California ocean salmon fishery management regulatory alternatives adopted by the Council in March. Motel 6 Convention Room, 400 S. April 1 • San Diego Anglers Monthly Club Meeting, San Diego. The San Diego Anglers will be holding its monthly meeting at the Bahia Resort Hotel, from 7-  9:30 p.m. Speaker details to be announced. Visit sandiegoanglers.com for more information.

April 5 • 8th Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby, Fullerton. Registration is underway for the annual Kids’ Fishing Derby at Laguna Lake in Fullerton. Only children 3 to 15 are allowed to participate. Bring your own gear or borrow from Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW). Those who borrow gear from DFW must go through a training session the morning of the event. Registration and DFW gear training is from 8-10 a.m.; the derby kicks off at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 12:30 p.m. Registration is free; only the first 750 registrants will be allowed to participate. April 8-9 • Fish and Game Commission Meeting, Santa Rosa. The California Fish and Game Commission will hold its third meeting of 2015 at the Flamingo Conference Resort & Spa, 2777 Fourth Street, Santa Rosa, Calif. 95405. The agenda is not yet available. Visit fgc.ca.gov for more information.

April 11 • 35th annual New Horizons Charity Pro-Am Bass Tournament, Lake Havasu. Bass fishing enthusiasts will have a chance to partake in a friendly competition for the “Big Fish” prize at this charity tournament at Lake Havasu State Park. The event starts at first light in Lot 2. Admission is $225 per team with a $50 option. April 18-19 • 40th annual MDR Halibut Derby, Marina del Rey. Fishing starts at sunrise both days. All fish must be submitted for weigh-in noon and 3 p.m. Note to captains: judge your travel time well folks; 8 knots in the outer channel, 5 knots and “No Wake” inside the harbor. You need time to tie up and transport your fish up the dock. Judges exceptions may be made by the Rules Committee for extenuating conditions. Dinner is served at 4 p.m. Bring your own picnic chair; pot luck items are welcome. Awards and raffle will start after 5:30 p.m. Please keep fish alive with lots of fresh sea water; 25 percent bonus for live released fish. Visit halibutderby.com or call (424) 229-1890.

April 30 • Full Season Spiny Lobster Report Card due. Report cardholders who fail to return their Full Season Spiny Lobster Report Card or report their harvest online by April 30,  following the close of lobster season, will be assessed a $20 non-return fee when they purchase a spiny lobster report card for the following season. Ongoing • Kids’ Fishing Clinic and Fishing Trip, Dana Point. Each Sunday at noon, Dana Wharf Sportfishing invites children 12 and younger to fish for free. Participants meet at Dana Wharf for a free dockside fishing clinic. After the clinic, Dana Wharf Sportfishing takes the participants out to fish at sea. Trip includes equipment for children.
