All of the offshore islands are producing a nice mix of yellowtail, white seabass and calicos, along with a sprinkling of barracuda and halibut. Catalina and San Clemente Island are getting the most fishing pressure, but the more distant islands such as Santa Barbara and San Miguel are also very good. Not spilling the beans about exactly where they have been fishing, Fortune and Ultra, both out of 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro, have been returning with three-fish limits of white seabass up to 45 pounds, along with a few halibut on good days — and on bad days, the bite is still one fish or a little better per rod.
