The long-range fleet out of San Diego continues to have excellent fishing off the tip of Baja California for giant yellowfin tuna. Red Rooster III returned this week with a great catch of 150- to 300-pound yellowfin. Top fish was a 312-pounder caught by Josh Gerson, Sherman Oaks, on his first giant tuna trip — and he caught the big fish on the last morning of the trip. Royal Polaris is heading back up the line and reported a catch of 22 yellowfin and 38 wahoo last week — and the big fish was a 279-pounder. Many of the skippers are taking a break next week for the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach.
