Annual series of events in May and June will raise money for senior citizen care.
SAN DIEGO—Southwestern Yacht Club will host a series of fundraising events on the water during the next few weeks, all as part of an annual campaign to benefit ElderHelp of San Diego. The first fundraising event is the 49th annual Bottom Fishing Tournament, which takes place May 4.
A gala, to be held on May 18, highlights the second leg of the fundraising series. Anchoring the series is 35th annual Charity Bay Race and Regatta on June 30.
“These events collectively benefit ElderHelp of San Diego which helps to ensure that San Diego seniors can remain living independently in their own homes with dignity and comfort, safely, for as long as they wish,” Southwestern YC’s staff said in a released statement. “ElderHelp of San Diego has assisted more than 90,000 San Diego seniors. The charity events have raised more than $850,000 by Southwestern Yacht Club and sponsors through Benefit on the Bay since 2008.”
The 49th Annual Bottom Fishing Tournament on May 4 includes breakfast, a day of fishing and a Mexican Fiesta Banquet. Attendees can also participate on silent and live auctions. The day finishes with dinner and awards presentations. The entry fee is $75.
Headlining May 18 is the Beacon of Light gala, where STAGE 4 Band will provide music. Heavy hors d’oeuvres, salmon, prime beef carving stations, free flowing champagne and sangria and Louisiana jambalaya, among other items, will be available for those in attendance. Tickets are $55 per person.
Bringing the fundraiser to a close is the 35th annual Charity Bay Race and Regatta. The June 30 event features boat captains and their respective crews will compete against each other in a 10-mile course around San Diego Bay. A post-race party will be held at Southwestern YC, where guests would treated to drawings for gifts, a barbeque and awards ceremony. Entry fees are $60 for the race and $15 for the race. All sailing teams will be competing for the Jerry Beeman Perpetual Trophy.
Proceeds from all three events would benefit ElderHelp of San Diego, which, according to Southwestern YC, provides rides to medical appointments, grocery trips and installation of home safety devices among other support services for San Diego seniors.
